This is billed monthly.

Materials:
Students need daily access to an acoustic piano or a digital keyboard that has weighted keys and pedals so that it has the same feel as an acoustic.

Books and other learning materials are included in the price of lessons.

They also need to maintain well-trimmed fingernails to allow for proper technique while playing.

Practicing:
Students need to understand the difference between practicing the piano and playing the piano. Practicing the piano implies that they are working on the assigned pieces from the lesson while playing the piano implies that they are playing previous pieces, inventing their own, or trying new unassigned pieces. Both practicing and playing are important but students are expected to practice for 30 minutes 5 days each week. Playing would be additional and optional, but definitely encouraged.

Performances:
Recitals are generally held twice a year - once in March/April and once in November/December.

When to start:
Students can start at a young age. They need to be able to recognize numbers 1-5, letters A-G, distinguish between left and right and be able to focus (more or less) for about 20-30 minutes. My current students are between ages of 5 years and 60+ years.

Motivation:
Ideally, the students will enjoy playing the piano for the sake of playing. However, not all pianists start out that way. To avoid practicing becoming a battle, students (ages 4-18 years) can participate in a reward system where they earn music money based on their practicing, completion of theory, performing, and other skills. They can then use that money to purchase from a prize box.

Not all students care about earning money and they certainly do not have to worry about it. This is an optional program.

Canceling a Lesson:
I expect there will be times when students cannot attend a lesson and I am willing to do make up lessons. Make up lessons should be on the day before or after the missed lesson depending on both our schedules or during a designated make-up week. I appreciate having a flexible studio and hope you will, too.
